There is nothing more unkind for the self than conflating prompts for briefs. Prompts point at an inner place of thinking; briefs are things we do with and for others. Ignoring the distinction, we relinquish our thinking space and start the process of disembodiment (/creative surplus). This is a living idea that I have written and held workshops about.
This week, I invite you to consider something you’re asking of others or are being asked: is this meant to invite creativity or production?
You can join a Zoom conversation about this idea this Thursday, 1:30 ET, using this Lu.ma link. These will be open to all subscribers for a few more weeks.
